John Brookshire
John Brookshire is an ACTAR-accredited crash reconstruction expert and the owner/senior reconstructionist of Detailed Reconstruction Experts, LLC. He began his public safety career working for a metro Atlanta Sheriff’s Office in 2002 and currently serves as the Traffic Enforcement Unit Commander, supervising deputies who specialize in traffic enforcement and serious/fatal crash investigations. His responsibilities include oversight of major crash investigations, including fatal and serious injury collisions.
Over the course of his career, John has investigated, assisted with, or supervised more than 200 fatal crashes and more than 400 serious injury crashes. His technical training includes crash data retrieval and analysis, momentum analysis, time/distance analysis, motorcycle crash investigation, heavy vehicle event data recorder analysis, and advanced traffic crash reconstruction. He is certified by the State of Georgia as a Traffic Accident Reconstruction Specialist and is accredited by ACTAR.
John also brings substantial expertise in impaired driving investigation. He is a certified Drug Recognition Expert Instructor through the International Association of Chiefs of Police and a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Instructor. He has trained law enforcement officers and prosecutors throughout Georgia as an adjunct instructor for the Georgia Prosecuting Attorney’s Council and has presented on crash reconstruction from the Drug Recognition Expert perspective at statewide and national traffic safety events.
In addition to his investigative and training background, John has been qualified as an expert witness in crash reconstruction, standardized field sobriety testing, horizontal gaze nystagmus, drug recognition, alcohol metabolism, and related impairment topics. Through Detailed Reconstruction Experts, LLC, he provides attorneys and insurers with consulting, analysis, complete reconstruction services, and expert witness support grounded in more than two decades of law enforcement, investigative, and courtroom experience.
